The temperatures are rising, the rain is becoming scarce... Summer is the ideal time to carry out a wide range of renovation work in Luxembourg. Here's a list of all the work you should be doing before autumn arrives:
Contents:
Changing your joinery (windows, doors, Velux windows, etc.)
There's no better time to consider changing your locks. If you want to improve the insulation of your windows (double or triple glazing), or make your doors more airtightIt's the ideal time of year.
The workmen will have to remove your existing joinery, leaving gaps for a few hours to a few days (while the work is being carried out).
It's best to do it in summer, when temperatures are mild. You'll be able to stay in your home while the work is being carried out (otherwise, in winter, you'll be forced to move out while the work is being carried out).
Waterproofing your roof or terrace
When it comes to waterproofing, we are mainly talking about applying a completely waterproof bituminous coating which prevents water from passing through. These strips of tar are welded to the existing coating using a torch that blows flames at very high temperatures.
Waterproofing your home is absolutely essential if you notice seepage through your roof or terrace when it rains. Over time, water can degrade materials and even affect the stability and safety of the building.
In general, waterproofers work from the beginning of April to the end of SeptemberThe materials and surfaces must be completely dry to guarantee a perfect seal.
Many professionals will refuse to carry out waterproofing work in winter, especially if they have to offer a guarantee for the work carried out.
Repainting your home
You probably know this if you've ever painted: temperatures must be sufficiently high (above 15°C) and the ambient air sufficiently dry (below 50-55% humidity) to allow the paint to dry. Otherwise, blisters or bubbles may form, and the whole job will have to be redone.
If you're planning to give your home a lick of paint, a word of advice: do it in summer! The product will dry quickly, and you'll be able to do a succession of undercoats and coats of paint in no time.
Installing air conditioning
It's often in summer that you realise that your home is too hot, and that you need air conditioning.
Good news: In summer, many heating engineers are available to carry out air conditioning work.
These sites generally last 1 to 3 days. (depending on the size and complexity of the installation), and you'll feel the effects as soon as the system is up and running!
But to ensure that the installation is efficient and doesn't consume too much electricity, you need to work with qualified, accredited professionals. They will calculate the right dimensions and lengths of duct for your system.
