Window Replacement Cost in Luxembourg (2026): Prices, Materials and Grants

In Luxembourg, replacing your windows costs between €500 and €2,400 per opening, installation included, depending on the type (standard window, French door or sliding patio door), the frame material (PVC/uPVC, aluminium or timber) and the glazing (double or triple). By combining the Klimabonus 2026 (€70/m² of window replaced, or €80/m² if the approval in principle is requested by 30 June 2027), Enoprimes, the 3% VAT rate and municipal grants, you can cut the net cost by 15 to 25%. Below you will find all the verified prices and the grants available to plan your new windows project in 2026.

📊 Key figures at a glance
  • Standard PVC window: €500–650 with double glazing and €750–900 with triple glazing, installation included, in Luxembourg (window of about 1.23 × 1.48 m).
  • Whole house: allow €7,500–9,000 for 10 triple-glazed PVC windows installed, and €9,500–12,000 for 10 triple-glazed aluminium windows.
  • Klimabonus 2026: €70/m² of window replaced (external dimensions), €80/m² if the approval in principle is requested by 30 June 2027, i.e. about €127 (€146) for a standard window.
  • Klimabonus conditions: glazing Ug ≤ 0.6 W/m²K (in practice, triple glazing), an insulated wall (U ≤ 0.85 W/m²K) or mechanical ventilation, a building more than 10 years old and approval in principle before work starts; double glazing receives no grant.
  • 3% VAT: instead of 17% for a main residence at least 10 years old, capped at €50,000 of VAT savings per dwelling; on 10 windows at €825 excluding VAT, the saving comes to €1,155.
  • Lead times: 4 to 8 weeks of made-to-measure manufacturing and 1 to 2 days of installation; allow 2 to 3 months between signing the quote and completion.

Timber €750–€1,100 €1,000–€1,400 40–60 years (with maintenance)
Wood-aluminium €900–€1,300 €1,200–€1,700 40–60 years

Standard French door (≈ 0.90 m × 2.10 m)

Material Double glazing — installed Triple glazing — installed
PVC €800–€1,100 €1,200–€1,500
Aluminium €1,000–€1,400 €1,400–€1,800
Timber / Wood-aluminium €1,100–€1,600 €1,500–€2,100

Large sliding patio door (≈ 2.40 m × 2.10 m)

Material Double glazing — installed Triple glazing — installed
PVC €1,500–€2,000 €2,100–€2,700
Aluminium €1,800–€2,400 €2,400–€3,300
Good to know PVC accounts for 50 to 60% of the windows fitted in Luxembourg. It offers the best value for money and, with triple glazing, meets the Klimabonus requirement (glazing Ug ≤ 0.6 W/m²K). Aluminium is favoured for large glazed areas and contemporary façades. Timber and wood-aluminium are the natural choice for listed houses and traditional architecture.

Installation costs in detail: renovation vs new build

Installation accounts on average for 20 to 30% of the total price of a window in Luxembourg. Its cost varies widely depending on the fitting method chosen and the conditions on site.

The three installation methods

Method Description Installation cost only Best for
Overlay fitting (renovation) New window fixed onto the existing reveal, old outer frame kept in place €100–€200 / window Quick replacement, tight budget
Full frame removal (renovation) Old outer frame taken out, masonry made good, new window fitted in the rebate €200–€400 / window Maximum thermal performance
New-build installation Window fitted before the walls are finished €100–€200 / window New build or major renovation
Warning Overlay fitting keeps the old outer frame, which reduces the effective glazed area and can leave thermal bridges around the frame. The Klimabonus 2026 does not prescribe an installation method (its conditions concern the glazing, Ug ≤ 0.6 W/m²K, and protection against condensation), but full frame removal is still recommended to ensure proper airtightness and good thermal performance.

Lead times to expect in Luxembourg

Made-to-measure manufacturing takes 4 to 8 weeks depending on the material (PVC: 4–5 weeks; aluminium: 5–7 weeks; timber: 6–8 weeks). The installation itself takes 1 to 2 days for a house with 10 to 12 windows. So allow 2 to 3 months between signing the quote and completion of the work, not counting the Klimabonus administrative processing times.

Budget for a whole house (10–12 windows)

Configuration Estimated gross budget (installation included)
10 PVC double-glazed windows €5,000–€6,500
10 PVC triple-glazed windows €7,500–€9,000
10 aluminium triple-glazed windows €9,500–€12,000
Mix: 8 windows + 2 French doors, PVC, triple glazing €8,400–€10,200
Mix: 8 PVC windows + 1 aluminium sliding patio door, double glazing €5,800–€7,600
Budget tip By ordering all your windows at once (10 units or more), you can negotiate a discount of 5 to 10% on the supply cost. The quiet season (November–January) also means better availability of tradespeople and sometimes more attractive prices.

What affects the price of your windows

For the same performance, one quote can cost up to twice as much as another, depending on the choices made. Here are the six key factors to get right before you sign.

1. Glazing type: the biggest impact

Triple glazing costs 30 to 40% more than modern low-E, argon-filled double glazing. For a house with 10 PVC windows, that means an extra €2,000 to €3,000. However, only triple glazing (Ug ≤ 0.6 W/m²K) qualifies for the Klimabonus 2026 (€70/m², or €80/m² if the approval in principle is requested by 30 June 2027), so the extra cost is partly offset on large glazed areas. For small areas or well-exposed south-facing façades, high-performance double glazing (Uw ≤ 1.0 W/m²K), which receives no Klimabonus, is often still the most cost-effective option.

2. Frame material

PVC is the cheapest and most common option. Aluminium costs 20 to 30% more than PVC for similar thermal performance (provided it has a good-quality thermal break). Timber and wood-aluminium can cost 50 to 100% more than PVC, but have a better carbon footprint (the window Klimabonus, however, remains the same flat rate per m², whatever the frame material).

3. Size and opening type

A non-standard window (extra-wide, arched, dormer) is made to measure and can cost 2 to 5 times the price of a standard window. Tilt-and-turn windows are the most popular and the best priced; sliding windows are slightly cheaper to buy but harder to seal.

4. Built-in options

A motorised roller shutter built into a made-to-measure box adds €300 to €600 per window. Reinforced acoustic glazing (asymmetric laminated glass, e.g. 6/16/4) adds €80 to €150 per m². Security (anti-burglary) glazing, P2A minimum, adds €100 to €200 per window.

5. Number of windows ordered

For orders of more than 10 units placed at the same time, manufacturers generally grant a discount of 5 to 10% on the supply cost. For 20 units or more (apartment buildings, full renovations), the discount can reach 10 to 15%.

6. Condition of the existing masonry

If the window reveals are damaged (cracks, damp, poor insulation), masonry repairs are needed before installation: allow an extra €100 to €300 per window depending on the condition of the walls.

Key point The Klimabonus 2026 requires glazing with Ug ≤ 0.6 W/m²K (in practice, triple glazing); the grant is then a flat rate per m². Do not confuse Ug (the U-value of the glazing alone) with Uw (the U-value of the whole window): Uw is always higher than Ug, and therefore less efficient. Check both on the manufacturer’s technical data sheet: the Ug (the Klimabonus condition) and the Uw (the window’s actual performance).

Window replacement grants in Luxembourg in 2026

Five sources of aid can be combined when replacing windows in Luxembourg. Here are the details of each, with verified amounts.

1. Klimabonus 2026 — €70/m² of window replaced (€80/m² until 30 June 2027)

Since 1 January 2026, the new Klimabonus Wunnen scheme (law of 24 July 2026, with retroactive effect) calculates the window replacement grant on the basis of a flat rate of €70/m² of window replaced (€80/m² if the approval in principle is requested by 30 June 2027), provided the glazing achieves Ug ≤ 0.6 W/m²K. This amount now incorporates the former Tripartite bonus.

Opening type Window area (external dimensions) Estimated Klimabonus 2026 grant
Standard window (1.23 m × 1.48 m) ≈ 1.82 m² ≈ €127 (€146 until 30 June 2027)
French door (0.90 m × 2.10 m) ≈ 1.89 m² ≈ €132 (€151 until 30 June 2027)
Sliding patio door (2.40 m × 2.10 m) ≈ 5.04 m² ≈ €353 (€403 until 30 June 2027)
Good to know The Klimabonus can only be granted once per building element. The building must be more than 10 years old (date of the building permit). The first application for approval in principle must be submitted via MyGuichet.lu before work starts, between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 2030. Invoices must be dated between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 2035.

2. Enoprimes — additional grant from your energy supplier

The energy suppliers Enovos and Sudenergie pay additional grants through the Enoprimes programme (you do not need to be their customer) for replacing poorly performing windows with models fitted with high-performance insulating glazing. The amount depends on the measure and on the product’s performance. You must apply before signing the purchase order: any application opened after the order has been placed is automatically rejected.

3. 3% VAT — a direct saving on your invoice

For a main residence in Luxembourg, renovation work (including window replacement) qualifies for the super-reduced VAT rate of 3% instead of 17%, a saving of 14 percentage points on the amount excluding VAT. This tax benefit is capped at €50,000 of VAT savings per dwelling. The dwelling must be used as a main residence and be at least 10 years old. The contractor can apply the 3% rate directly once approved by the AED (the Luxembourg VAT authority); otherwise, the owner can claim a refund afterwards.

VAT saving on 10 PVC triple-glazed windows at €825 excl. VAT each:
10 × €825 × 14% = €1,155 saved on VAT

4. Municipal grants — depending on your commune

Almost all Luxembourg communes top up the Klimabonus. For 20 m² of windows, 82 of the 100 communes add €160 to €1,000 (Klima-Agence simulator, September 2026): commune grant for windows in your commune. Your commune’s regulation applies.

5. Klimaprêt — financing your out-of-pocket cost

If your budget does not cover the full cost of the work, the Klimaprêt lets you borrow up to €100,000 over 15 years from a participating bank, with a State interest subsidy of 1.5% (capped at 10% of the principal, i.e. €10,000 maximum). This loan can be combined with the Klimabonus and Enoprimes.

Steps to take before signing your window quote

Timing is critical: a single step taken in the wrong order can cost you all of your grants. Here is the right sequence for replacing windows in Luxembourg in 2026.

1
Apply for Enoprimes approval BEFORE signing anything

Contact Enovos or Sudenergie, which offer Enoprimes (you do not need to be their customer), or go through an enoprimes.lu partner installer. Approval must be obtained before the purchase order is signed, without exception.

2
Submit the Klimabonus application for approval in principle via MyGuichet.lu

Before work starts, submit your application for approval in principle to the Guichet unique des aides au logement (the one-stop shop for housing aid) via MyGuichet.lu. If you are replacing a single element without an energy consultation, the simplified procedure applies. For several elements, a consultation with an approved energy advisor is mandatory.

3
Check municipal grants

Ask your municipal administration or use the Klima-Agence simulator (aides.klima-agence.lu) to find out which grants are available in your municipality.

4
Sign the quote and arrange a Klimaprêt if needed

Once you have the Klimabonus approval in principle and the Enoprimes approval, sign the quote from an approved company (or have the work supported by an approved energy advisor). If you need a Klimaprêt, prepare it with a participating bank: the State guarantee requires the Klimabonus approval in principle, and the interest subsidy (form F3) requires the Klimabonus to have been granted.

5
Carry out the work and collect the invoices

Invoices must be dated between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 2035. Check that each invoice states the window type, the Ug value of the glazing, the area and the unit price — this information is required for the Klimabonus payout.

6
Claim your grants

Once the work is complete, submit your Klimabonus payment claim via MyGuichet.lu. It must be filed within 4 years following the year of the invoice, and no later than 31 December 2039. Also send the supporting documents to your energy supplier for Enoprimes. File your 3% VAT claim with the AED if the reduced rate was not applied directly.

5 mistakes that blow your window budget in Luxembourg

1. Signing the purchase order before getting Enoprimes and Klimabonus approval

This is the most common and the most expensive mistake. For Enoprimes, any order signed before approval automatically makes the application inadmissible. For the Klimabonus, starting work without approval in principle means your application will be rejected. Either way, you lose anything from a few hundred to several thousand euros in grants.

2. Confusing Ug and Uw on the quote

Ug is the thermal value of the glazing alone. Uw is the value for the whole window (frame + glazing) — it is Uw that measures the window’s actual performance, whereas the Klimabonus 2026 requires glazing with Ug ≤ 0.6 W/m²K. Glazing with Ug = 0.5 can give a Uw of 0.8 or 1.1 depending on the quality of the frame. Always insist that both Ug and Uw are explicitly stated on the quote and on the product data sheet.

3. Choosing overlay fitting to save money in the short term

Overlay fitting costs €100 to €200 less per window than full frame removal. But it keeps the thermal bridges of the old outer frame, reduces the effective glazed area and can compromise airtightness (although the Klimabonus does not prescribe an installation method). The short-term saving often turns into a long-term cost.

4. Getting only one quote

In Luxembourg, prices for windows and external doors can vary by 30 to 50% from one supplier to another for identical specifications. Ask for at least 3 detailed quotes, making sure each one states the same Uw, the same material, the same installation method and the same guarantees.

5. Forgetting to check the masonry before budgeting

Damaged window reveals (cracks, settlement, trapped moisture) can add €100 to €300 per window in masonry repairs not included in the initial quote. Have the existing reveals inspected during the measuring visit so that this work can be priced from the outset.

Frequently asked questions — window prices in Luxembourg

What is the average price of a PVC window in Luxembourg in 2026, installation included?

A standard PVC window (1.23 m × 1.48 m) costs between €500 and €650 with double glazing and between €750 and €900 with triple glazing, installed with full frame removal. These prices cover made-to-measure manufacturing, delivery and installation by a certified professional in Luxembourg.

How much does a sliding patio door cost fitted in Luxembourg?

A sliding patio door of about 2.40 m × 2.10 m costs between €1,500 and €2,000 in PVC with double glazing and between €2,400 and €3,300 in aluminium with triple glazing, installation included. With triple glazing, a Klimabonus grant of about €353 (€70/m²; €403 at €80/m² if the approval in principle is requested by 30 June 2027) comes off the price, plus the VAT saving.

Does the Klimabonus 2026 cover window replacement?

Yes. The Klimabonus Wunnen 2026 scheme provides a flat-rate grant of €70/m² of window replaced (€80/m² if the approval in principle is requested by 30 June 2027). To qualify, the glazing must achieve Ug ≤ 0.6 W/m²K, the wall must be insulated (U ≤ 0.85 W/m²K) or the home must have controlled mechanical ventilation (VMC), the building must be more than 10 years old, the work must be carried out by an approved company or supported by an approved energy advisor, and the application for approval in principle must be submitted via MyGuichet.lu before work starts.

Can the Klimabonus, Enoprimes and 3% VAT be combined for windows?

Yes, these three types of aid can be fully combined. You can also add municipal grants if your municipality offers them. The 3% VAT rate is applied directly on the invoice or can be refunded afterwards. Enoprimes must be applied for before the purchase order is signed. The Klimabonus requires approval in principle before work starts.

What is the minimum thermal performance to qualify for the Klimabonus?

Under the Klimabonus Wunnen 2026 scheme, the requirement applies to the glazing: Ug ≤ 0.6 W/m²K (in practice, triple glazing). There is also an anti-condensation condition: the wall (or the roof of a heated attic) must be insulated to U ≤ 0.85 W/m²K, or the home must have controlled mechanical ventilation (VMC). The grant is €70/m² (€80/m² if the approval in principle is requested by 30 June 2027). These conditions are laid down by the law of 24 July 2026. Check guichet.public.lu or the Klima-Agence simulator for the definitive criteria.

How long does it take to replace 10 windows?

Made-to-measure manufacturing takes 4 to 8 weeks depending on the material. Installation for a house with 10 to 12 windows usually takes 1 to 2 working days. So allow 2 to 3 months between signing the quote and completion, plus the administrative processing times for the Klimabonus and Enoprimes.

Do you need a certified contractor to get the Klimabonus on windows?

Not necessarily. For the Klimabonus, the work must be carried out by a company approved under the law of 21 April 1993 or supported on site by an approved energy advisor. With a non-approved company, support from an advisor therefore remains possible; with neither, the Klimabonus is refused, even if the window fitted technically meets the requirements.

Does the 3% VAT rate apply if I rent out my home?

Yes, renovation work in a rented home also qualifies for the 3% VAT rate, provided the tenant uses it as their main residence. The 3% rate can be applied directly or refunded afterwards by the Administration de l’Enregistrement, des Domaines et de la TVA (AED, the Luxembourg registration and VAT authority).
