Multisplit 2 units (bi-split) — €4,300–€6,700 inc. VAT
Ideal for small houses or 2-room apartments. One outdoor unit feeds two independent indoor units — each room has its own thermostat. Breakdown: equipment €2,000–€3,200 + installation €2,300–€3,500 = €4,300–€6,700 inc. VAT.

Grants and VAT in Luxembourg: Klimabonus 2026
Before signing your contract, check these schemes which can significantly reduce your bill.
A reversible air conditioner / air-to-air heat pump is NOT eligible for the Klimabonus. The Klimabonus heat-pump grant is reserved for air-to-water or geothermal heat pumps connected to a central water-based heating circuit. For an air-to-air unit, the only financial lever is the reduced 3% housing VAT (instead of 17%).
Reduced VAT 3% (automatic)
Reversible air conditioners (air-to-air heat pumps) benefit from reduced 3% VAT instead of 17%. Automatic — no special application needed. On a €4,000 net installation: 3% VAT = €120 vs 17% VAT = €680 — saving: €560.
Klimabonus: why an air-to-air air conditioner does not qualify
Klimabonus is Luxembourg’s main energy renovation aid programme. Its heat-pump grant is designed to replace a fossil heating system with an air-to-water or geothermal heat pump connected to a central water-based heating circuit. A reversible air-to-air air conditioner does not replace your boiler and does not produce heating hot water, so it is not eligible for this subsidy.
- Grant reserved for: air-to-water and geothermal heat pumps on a central heating circuit (up to ~€10,000 depending on the case)
- Air-to-air air conditioner: not eligible for the Klimabonus — the only financial lever is the reduced 3% housing VAT
- To obtain the Klimabonus: you must install an air-to-water heat pump (see our air-to-water heat pump guide)
- Process (air-to-water only): prior agreement mandatory before works via guichet.public.lu or guidance from Klima-Agence
Worked example — the 3% VAT is the only saving
Reversible bi-split multisplit, total cost €6,000 net:
- Reduced 3% VAT (€180) instead of 17% (€1,020) → saving of €840
- Klimabonus subsidy → €0 (air-to-air not eligible)
Final net cost: €6,180 incl. 3% VAT, i.e. ~€840 less than at the 17% rate. No Klimabonus amount applies, because an air-to-air unit is not eligible. To obtain Klimabonus grants (up to ~€10,000), an air-to-water heat pump is required.
